Astral Dice Privacy Policy

DRAFT FOR COUNSEL REVIEW, NOT LEGAL ADVICE. This repo copy is the review master and is not shipped. The app displays legal/PRIVACY_POLICY.md, which carries the same text with {{tokens}} filled from data/studio.json (lines with an empty value are dropped, so no placeholder ever reaches a player). After review, apply the agreed wording to BOTH files, fill data/studio.json, and host the final version at the privacy_url / terms_url given there.

Last updated: [DATE]. Applies to Astral Dice version 0.9.0 and later.

The short version

What the game stores on your device

Data Why Where
Game progress (heroes, currencies, chapter progress, summon history, tutorial steps) So you can keep playing Your device's app storage
The current run (so a run survives closing the app) Resume a run Your device's app storage
Settings (volume, battle speed) and your privacy choices (age confirmation, analytics choice) Remember your choices Your device's app storage
Ad limits (how many reward videos and ads between runs you had today) Keep ads within their limits Your device's app storage
Gameplay statistics, only if you opt in (for example: a battle started, a floor was cleared, a summon was made, with timestamps) and a random statistics ID To understand which parts of the game are too hard or too easy Your device's app storage, size-capped; sent to our analytics provider (see Analytics)
Downloaded game content (balance tables, events, banners, art) Content updates without a new app version Your device's app storage

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, photos, microphone or hardware device identifiers. The ad provider may use your advertising identifier if you allow it (see Ads). The game asks for no device permissions except, on iOS, Apple's "Allow tracking" prompt for ads (you can say no). On Android it uses the standard internet and advertising-ID permissions, which need no prompt.

Analytics

Analytics are optional and off by default everywhere; nothing is recorded or sent until you switch them on (at the first launch or in Settings > Privacy). Players under the regional age of digital consent (13, or 16 in some regions) cannot switch them on.

When they are on, the game sends anonymous gameplay events to our analytics provider, PostHog (PostHog Inc. / PostHog's EU cloud), acting as our processor. An event says what happened in the game and when, for example: a session started or ended, a tutorial step was finished or skipped, a battle or run started or ended (chapter, floor, turns, result), an ultimate was used, a summon was made (banner, rarities, pity count), currency was earned or spent in the game, a reward was claimed, a setting was changed, or the game hit an error (the file and line of the error, never your data). Each event carries a random statistics ID created on your device (not linked to your name, an account, your advertising ID or your hardware), a random session ID, the game version, the content version and the platform (Android / iOS).

We use this only to balance and fix the game (legal basis in the EU/UK: your consent). We do not use these statistics for advertising and never pass them to the ad provider (ads are covered separately, see Ads); we do not sell or share them, and we do not combine it with other data. We ask PostHog not to store IP addresses or derive location from them. Events wait on your device until they can be sent (at most 1,000, deleted after 14 days if they can't be). On the provider's side, statistics are kept for up to [RETENTION, e.g. 12 months] [COUNSEL: confirm retention and PostHog EU region / DPA] and then deleted.

Switching analytics off stops sending immediately and deletes any events that were not sent yet. Delete my data also deletes the statistics ID, so later events (if you opt in again) can't be connected to earlier ones. Because the ID is random and stays on your device, we cannot tell which statistics are yours; if you want past statistics erased, write to [PRIVACY EMAIL] with the statistics ID shown before you delete your data [COUNSEL: or decide to offer no per-ID erasure because the data is anonymous].

Content updates

To deliver new events, banners, balance changes and art without a new app version, the game checks our content server ([CONTENT HOST, e.g. content.astraldice.example]) when it starts and downloads updates. This check sends no personal data and no identifiers: only the request your device makes to download a file (which, like any internet request, reveals your IP address to the server; our host, Cloudflare, processes it to deliver the file and does not give us a profile of you). It does not depend on your analytics choice. Downloaded content is checked against a digital signature before use. Content updates never contain program code.

Ads

The game shows ads from Google AdMob (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd.):

Ads start only after you have answered the first-launch privacy panel. Where the law requires it (for example the EU, UK and Switzerland), Google's consent form asks before any ad is shown. On iOS, Apple's "Allow tracking" prompt asks before the advertising identifier can be used.

To show, measure and limit ads and to prevent fraud, Google collects data from your device: the advertising identifier (if allowed), your IP address and approximate location derived from it, device and app information, and how you interact with ads. Google uses this as described in its policy (https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads).

Ads are personalized only for players who confirmed they are 18 or over and whose consent allows it. Younger players, and anyone who declines, get non-personalized ads only: they are tagged as under the age of consent and limited to content suitable for all ages. You can change your choice later in your device settings ("Delete advertising ID" / "Ads" on Android, "Tracking" on iOS) or by reinstalling the game, which shows the consent form again.

[COUNSEL: confirm the AdMob disclosures, the legal basis (consent via Google UMP / legitimate interest for non-personalized ads) and the under-18 handling; Google requires a link to its partner-sites policy, included above.]

In-app purchases

The game offers optional in-app purchases: gem packs, one-time and limited packs, 30-day passes, Remove Ads, a Gem Fund and Hero Packs. Payment is handled entirely by your app store (Google Play or the Apple App Store); we never see or store your payment details, name or card number. The store gives the game a purchase record (product, a purchase identifier, time and a signed receipt) so the game can deliver your items once; that record is kept on your device with your progress.

Players under the regional age of digital consent cannot make purchases. Players who have not confirmed they are 18 or over are asked to check with a parent or guardian before each purchase, and their spending is capped per month. In regions where paid random items are restricted (currently Belgium and the Netherlands), purchased gems cannot be used for summons. [COUNSEL: if server-side receipt validation is added, describe the server, what it receives (the purchase record) and its retention.]

Children

The game is intended for players aged 13 and over (16 and over in some regions). We ask for your year of birth the first time you start the game; we only keep whether you meet the age threshold, not your birth year. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Analytics cannot be switched on under the regional age, so no gameplay statistics are sent for younger players; content updates send no personal data. Younger players only get non-personalized ads (see Ads), and no purchase offers pop up for players who have not confirmed they are 18 or over.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or US state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA) you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data and to withdraw consent. You can withdraw consent to analytics at any time in Settings > Privacy (unsent statistics are deleted), and Settings > Privacy > Delete my data removes all saved progress, settings, statistics and the statistics ID from the device. Statistics already sent are anonymous and can't be traced back to you by us. Uninstalling the game also removes them. For any question, contact [PRIVACY EMAIL].

AI-generated content

Parts of the game's art, music, sound effects and character voices were made with generative AI tools and then edited by the team. No player data is used to create or train AI models.

Security

Data stays inside the game's private app storage on your device, protected by your device's operating system. Statistics and content downloads travel over encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above and show a notice in the game. Material changes (for example any data leaving your device) will require your consent first.
